WESTERN BUREAU:

Local designers Pablo Palair, Kokobeenz, Yola Gray, T&T, Robb Anthony and Ashley Martin, were on par with their international counterpart Island Company as they showcased the best in fashion at the Ritz Carlton's 'Escape to Luxury Couture' Wednesday night.

On the eve of the general elections, the votes were cast heavily for cool cottons, sexy sheer, jersey, linen and the natural fibres to satisfy even the most discerning fashionistas.

Escape was the perfect medicine to counteract the overdose of campaigning that both political parties had subjected the country to, and the resort's Stuart-Wayne Douglas had the right prescription.

After weeks of whetting the appetites of sponsors such as Flow and J. Wray and Nephew, Douglas would have it no other way, but the 'Ritzy' way.

Guests were greeted with champagne and Absolut Vodka martinis in a cocktail setting, followed by a glitzy wonderland embellished with elements of fire, water, air and earth and complemented by the 'fifth element', designer and singer, Ashley Martin.

Douglas and his team opened the show with Ann-Marie Robinson-Chin's fire engine red designs, conjuring up a range of seemingly conflicting emotions. The audience saw flame, passion and love, all enveloped in the artist's creation.

The opening act was a precursor to a fantastic evening of fashion.
