What a wedding!
Standing in front of a driftwood backdrop designed by the bride, on the water's edge of the fifth hole of the Cinnamon Hill Golf Course, Ashlee Greenwell and Marc Rollins said "I do".
Virginia Tech graduate, Marc Rollins grew up visiting Jamaica regularly with his parents Michele and John Rollins. Nine years ago he began his own love affair with Jamaica when he and 10 of his "football" playing friends from the United States started the Rose Hall football camp for the 100 children of the SOS Village. The second year, Reggae Boyz Aaron Lawrence, Fabian Davis and Linval Wilson, with Rema coach, Granville's 'Papa' Clarke joined the coaches.
In 2006, a young female athlete, former Miss Delaware, joined the coaches for the camp and Ashlee Greenwell began to share her love affair with Jamaica and the children of the village with Marc Rollins.
In a stunning Lazaro bead-encrusted gown of ivory satin, Ashlee crossed the golf green toward Marc Rollins and his groomsmen all in tan linen suits. Her bridesmaids, including Marc's sister Monique, wore one-shoulder purple satin cocktail dresses with flat silver sandals and held bouquets of lavender roses, green hydrangeas, calla lilies and orchids.
Rose petals were scattered by flower girls Catherine Rollins (daughter of Caroline and Michael Rollins) and Cheyenne French, Ashlee's cousin. The ring boy, Mikey Marietta, is the son of sister Michele Rollins and Michael Marietta.
After a steel drum cocktail period around The Pond at the Great House, the couple moved to the lawns of the property for the reception featuring the Ritz's finest pumpkin soup, seafood pasta, pork tenderloin with mango salsa, and sea bass.
The wedding cake was covered with large white fondant rose petals by young Branson entrepreneur, and Ritz-trained pastry chef, Alicia Woodbine James.
Delaware flower designer Chris Maney teamed with local florist Doreen Hines to create illuminated glass cylinders filled with orchids. Hurricane lamps surrounded by orchids, roses and anthuriums lit the tables. Crystal lanterns and exotic flowers hung from the trellises above the walkway.
To the music of Pace, Marc and Ashlee and their guests, young and old, danced into the wee hours of the morning.
On the eve of the wedding, the rehearsal dinner was held on the majestic verandah at Copperwood, the family home. The tables groaned with strip sirloin and Rose Hall rum-based barbeque chicken prepared to perfection by the Ritz-Carlton. Large pans of paella, Iberostar's signature dish, were also on the menu.
Paul Hurlock entertained through dinner and then family friend Carlene Carter sang several of the family favourites, Ring of Fire, written by her mother, famous country singer June Carter Cash, and Breen Love after her husband, Joe. Carlene told stories of that little blond boy who was about to be married and it was reminiscent of the joy and warmth her mother June always exuded in similar circumstances.
The mother of the groom, Michele Rollins, toasted the fabulous couple.
Special guest Anne Bowen, New York fashion designer, had just completed a luxurious photo shoot at the Rose Hall Great House and various other venues in anticipation of the upcoming collaboration for Anne Bowen Weddings at Rose Hall. There were Harts in abundance, Tony and Sheila, Hugh and Pam, Mark and Candace, Blaise and Tammy, the Trottas, the Millers and the Sloleys, former United States Ambassador to Jamaica Brenda LaGrange Johnson and her husband Howard, Hospiten owner Pedro Cobiello and the glamorous Micky Lodder. The majority of guests were family. Rollins family patriarch Randall Rollins celebrated his 80th birthday on the wedding date surrounded by 90 of his family members.
What a wedding weekend!
