Some 107 new Justices of the Peace (JPs) have been added to the roll for St Andrew in a swearing-in exercise that took place at Medallion Hall Hotel in the parish from Monday, November 28 to December 1. The ceremonies were conducted by Custos of St Andrew The Honourable Marigold Harding.

The new JPs will be given their seals and commissions on Sunday, December 4, and be presented to the parish organisation in a ceremony to be addressed by the Honourable Chief Justice Zaila McCalla. Minister of Justice Delroy Chuck will also be in attendance. It will be held at the Mona Visitors' Lodge, located at the University of the West Indies.

In her charge to the new JPs, Custos Harding said they had been well prepared and equipped to go into their communities and do an excellent job. "I am very proud of all of you and I know that you have the confidence to take up your duties; go out and lead from the front, be role models, take pride in and demonstrate dignity in your work," she said.

Custos Harding also charged members of the group who were not yet involved to become engaged in community and church activities so that they can make a change for safer communities, and participate in mediation to prevent some matters from going to court.
