I learnt to let go!
"Some of us think holding on makes us strong, but sometimes it is letting go."
Everyone I know seems to be going through huge shifts and changes in their lives. Are you? I know I am. In just two days, my family and I will be moving to Montego Bay to live. We are going to join my husband who has been working there for the last three years. Tired of the commute and the effect of Dad not being around on the kids, we made this life-changing decision.
It was not an easy one for me. I leave behind the security of my home, amazing schools for my kids, my family, my support system and my comfort zone. It was only when I truly let go of my attachment to these things, and trusted that the universe was guiding me, that I saw limitless possibilities and freedom.
Where I felt like I was giving up something, I now feel like I am gaining a whole new world and I am so excited to see what life will bring. This has been a huge lesson about letting go. As a yoga instructor, I often guide my students to let go, now I have had to really walk my talk and practise what I preach.
A lesson in trust
In order to let go, we need to trust, have faith and jump off the edge of a cliff into the unknown. Because not many of us practise trust, we lose so many opportunities to grow. It is in learning to let go that we learn to let in new ideas, new opportunities, and new ways of being.
In case you did not notice, the universe is asking us right now to make shifts in our lives — to downsize, simplify and be happy with less. Can you feel it? Are you willing to let go of the possessions, unhealthy habits, old beliefs, relationships and jobs in your lives that are not serving you? Are you able to trust that in doing so, you will create space for something new and even more wonderful in your life? Are you willing to try?
So my friends, if you are feeling the need to make some changes in your lives, do not be afraid. There is tremendous liberation in freeing ourselves from things that are not making us happy and fulfilled. Please join me on this journey of trust, faith and the freedom of letting go.
