WESTERN BUREAU: The Rotary Club of Montego Bay East held its Installation Luncheon at the Ritz-Carlton hotel last Sunday.

The new directors are President Dr Hermes Madu, vice-president Lilieth Greg, secretary Curt ward, Treasurer Peter Williams and Sergeant-at-Arms Leroy Peart. The body is complemented with Tahalia Small who services projects, Audley Knight who will manage the foundation, Kenneth Haines head public relation and Hubert McIntyre for oversee membership.

Guest speaker Mayor of Falmouth, Councillor Collen Gager, challenged the Rotarians to exhibit positive behaviour. "Everybody thinks of changing humanity but nobody thinks of changing him or herself. The truth is, though, change begins with the man in the mirror." He commended the Rotarians for their philanthropic ways while encouraging them to continue. "As Rotarian you must share the view that the sole meaning of life it to serve humanity, you must see in others what they fail to see in themselves."

Strive for bigger

Departing president Winsome Stewart notes that the club had met its objectives for the year. "The club's commitment this year was to strive for bigger, better, bolder challenges as we build communities and bridge continents through mentoring, education, community service projects, health care and improving water supplies and we have done just that."

She beamed at the successes and financial health of the club in getting the Rotary Foundation award along with having $1.35 million in reserve designated for scholarships. The club also got the zone award for literacy and the District Governor's Platinum award.

Audley Knight received the award for Rotarian of the Year while Noel White and Hubert Cooke received the distinction of Paul Harris Fellow. This is given to Rotarians who have given exemplary service to the club. Paul Harris is the founder of the Rotary.

Tony Jones was given the attendance award while Olivene Scarlett was awarded for her hospitality and gracious service. Throughout the proceedings, chairman Leroy Peart kept things alive with his wit.
