Relax and renew with yoga
Finding yourself always tired and stressed after work lately? Next time, don't reach for the TV remote, glass of wine or raid the fridge - just try at little yoga! You will be amazed that just 10-15 minutes of yoga stretches and focused breathing will help to change your mood, elevate your energy levels and take away aches and pains.
Try these seven simple steps:
1. First of all, as you get home, before you interact with your partner, kids, pets or electronic devices, take off your shoes, change into loose, comfortable clothing and find a quiet comfortable space.
2. Sit comfortably with your legs crossed in front, your spine tall and your eyes closed. Become aware of your breath, and take 10 slow, deep breaths in through your nose and out through your nose.
3. Next, drop your right ear to your right shoulder, breathing into the left side of your neck five times. Then change sides, releasing any tension or tightness in your neck and shoulders.
4. After this, come to your hands and knees, pressing back on your heals for The Child's Pose, taking 10 breaths there into your spine and lower back.
5 . After The Child's Pose, move into Downward Dog, aiming for five -10 breaths, feeling the back and hamstrings release. Use this time, with the head below your heart, to release any anxiety, stress or negativity from your mind.
6. Return to Child's Pose and breathe.
7 Lastly, roll on to your back, extend your arms out to your sides and completely rest and let go for two minutes, still focusing on your breath but now feeling a sense of ease, relaxation and health in your body.
After just this short practise, you will find that you have released your day and are ready to enjoy the rest of your evening, feeling renewed energy and a sense of peace!
