SAJ spreads Christmas cheer
MORE THAN 80 senior citizens, including the disabled and shut-ins of the Greenwich Town community, were last week treated to grocery items, courtesy of the Shipping Association of Jamaica (SAJ).
The yearly treat for the elderly was held at the Holy Name Catholic Church in that community last Tuesday.
"This is really a good thing that the Shipping Association is doing for the residents," said Dotsy Simpson, a resident of the community for 39 years.
Simpson has been working with the elderly in Greenwich Town for over 20 years, and has assisted the SAJ in identifying the needs of the community.
"I am very happy and proud of the continued support from SAJ. The seniors were very appreciative of the gifts received. I hope the SAJ will continue this support in the years to come," Simpson added.
"The Shipping Association of Jamaica has been supporting the Greenwich Town community for many years through various outreach programmes, including our sponsorship of the Marcus Garvey Basic School," Dahlia Clarke, research, projects and communications officer of the SAJ said.
"This treat is symbolic of our continued commitment to the community, even during this harsh economic climate," Clarke added.
The SAJ's initiative is also supported by members of the administrative and port working staff who make regular financial contributions to a pool of funds used to sustain members of the community.
