We're beginning to think Tomas turned away because he didn't want to upset the ball.

The Civic Affairs Committee of the Jamaica Chamber of Commerce presented its annual grand charity ball on Saturday, November 6, under the theme 'Love Without Limits', and there was no limit to the quality entertainment. 'Mr Smooth', Floyd Folkes, produced his usual catalogue of guitar classics before and during dinner.

Aiesha Davis, who pleasantly stunned the gathering at last year's event, wowed them again with her sophomore effort. She had the slow grooves, including Fallin' and Because You Loved Me, before saluting all the 'single ladies' with Beyoncé's song of the same name (the ringless hands flashing). She called up young crooner Leonardo Carmichael for two numbers before reheating things with Jump (For My Love) and Respect. For her encore, she delivered My Way.

Fab 5, celebrating 40 years (officially) of producing great music, was inimitable. Their first set was especially for the couples, with some classic R&B, and a fitting tribute to the late Gregory Isaacs. The second time around, it was some groovy rocksteady hits showcasing the likes of Alton Ellis in his prime. Demonstrating versatility, the band even branched off into '90s dancehall and some from the present, Seanizzle's 'One Day' rhythm sounding very nice performed by a live band.

Veteran showman Lloyd Lovindeer joined in for a few of his hits, including Wild Gilbert and Pocomania Day. Fab 5 returned after the prize drawing to take the dancing feet close to 2 a.m.

Guests out included Opposition Leader Portia Simpson Miller; Phillip Paulwell; Spanish Ambassador Celsa Nuño and husband Alex Crowther (who showed off fancy footwork on the dance floor); Francis and Marjory Kennedy; Elena and Igor Dorofeev; Lloyd Distant Jr; Dr David McBean; Sharon and George Roper; Winston and Camille Lawson; Wayne Kirkpatrick; Rosemary Marshall and Annette Pryce Mark and Leisha Linehan; Trisha K. Thompson; Marilyn Bennett, Rosa Joseph; Mexican Ambassador Leonora Rueda; and scores more.
