Happy birthday, Jennifer
Chester Francis-Jackson, Gleaner Writer
Jennifer Lim is known for being a socialite-at-large and political facilitator, travelling the world for charitable causes and attending the parties of the rich and famous and friends in high places!
Famous for her political fund-raising prowess, she is toasted both nationally and internationally for her diplomatic skills and charity. Always quick to throw a party to celebrate the achievements of friends or for their birthdays or anniversaries, the petite grande dame is equally reticent about blowing her own trumpet and avoids celebrating her own birthdays.
Not so this year, however, as on Saturday, October 23, the charming Lim, opened up the doors to her very swanky upper St Andrew residence for a fabulously elegant birthday party that will long be remembered.
It was not just a celebration of a birthday but more a holistic gathering of friends, family and the many blessings over the years. It made for a simply flawless outing!
Dress code
To begin with, this was a party that was planned in limited time as, only at the beginning of the week, the birthday girl, after being prodded by friends, decided on throwing a party to mark the anniversary of her birth.
There was no stipulated dress code, as none was necessary; Lim and her circle of friends all belong to fashionable society. However, for the most part the majority of those in attendance chose black and white, and this, too, added to the sense of joie de vivre that was the very heart and soul of the party.
And dears, we are talking the very essence of fab here as Lorraine Fung was the caterer, and luvs, did she!
We are talking a fare here that was tropical in its allure but continental in its presentation and taste, and with a cadre of efficient staff on hand, libations and edibles were no more than a beck or nod away.
And then there was the company - the social elite at sixes and nines, and with the very talented Wayne Armond and Friends providing the musical feast, y'all know we are talking music for easy listening, and dancing, and dance many did!
There were toasts aplenty during the cutting of the birthday cake as friends shared their love and showered the birthday girl with praise. It was an acknowledgement of the role and import played by Lim over the years!
But what a fabulous night!
Dears, on the social Richter scale, a definite 10! Among the friends sharing the festivities were: children Nick and Liz McAdam; sibling and art collector extraordinaire Wallace Campbell and his son Vance Campbell; Finance Minister Audley Shaw and his beautiful wife Susan; Transport Minister Mike Henry and his fab wife Dawn; Contractor General Greg Christie and his lovely wife Janice; Dennis Lalor and wife Diane; Joe Matalon and wife, the très elegant Bernadette; the simply beautiful Marge Geddes.
We spotted: Mexican Ambassador Her Excellency Leonora Rueda and Nigel Pagon; the new Spanish Ambassador Her Excellency Celsa Nuño and her husband, former South African Foreign Service official, Alex Crowther; grande dame of style and elegance Lorna Myers; Russell Hadeed and his charming wife Carol; Romi Suboki; the charming Madge Seaga; Captain Michael Lyn; the elegant Janette Stewart; Richard Fontaine; Captain Rupert Bent and wife Cindy; the oh so lovely Janine Ewart Bunting; Mark and Julie Jones; Percy and Eleanor Hussey; the oh so elegant Minna Israel; Mark Linehan; the beautiful Deika Morrison; Joe Aducci; Yuval Csillag; Avril Norton; Ameria and Gabby Shar.
