BOOS & BOUQUETS - Bouquets for bus driver!

Published:Sunday | October 3, 2010 | 12:00 AM

As a frequent traveller on the Jamaica Urban Transport Company (JUTC) buses, I found the journey quite refreshing as I travelled in an 18A bus on Tuesday, September 28, from Half-Way Tree to Greater Portmore.

It was a rainy morning, and the driver took great care on the roads not to splash anyone. On the toll road (the single lane portion), the driver did not 'gwaan bad' or use the horns when the vehicle ahead of him was going at a slower pace. He drove steadily behind it until we reached the triple carriageway when both vehicles were now able to quicken their speed.

At Edgewater, the rain came down in torrents. He obliged passengers by letting them off close to their exact destinations (not necessarily a bus stop). There was a woman who was unsure of her stop, but he did not curse nor was he impatient with her. He eventually let her off at the point that she requested.

On approaching the Greater Portmore High School, he detoured to drop the students off at the school gate as they would have been drenched had they been let off at the bus stop (which is not covered). On approaching the terminus, he took me straight to the Junior Centre (beside the terminus), so that I could get in without being seriously wet.

He was courteous to all throughout the journey. He drove carefully and efficiently, and I would like to express sincere thanks to Fistley Jones for delivering excellent and professional service.
