The garden of The Jamaica Pegasus hotel was transformed into an oasis of glamour and style for the recent launch of the Miss Jamaica World (MJW) contest.

The contest has new organisers who are also former MJW queens, pageant director, Dr Terri-Karelle Reid, and pageant coordinators Sara Lawrence and Regina Beavers. They pointed out that this year's event will be more than just a beauty contest, and they will be working on serious matters which falls under the pageant's theme, 'Peace and Love Jamaica'. They also promised a bigger, better contest.

Reid told guests that they will also be honouring an elected inner-city youth who has done tremendous community work. To find that individual, they are requesting the help of PALS with whom they have teamed up for the pageant, as well as the Ministry of Tourism.

Reid revealed that the new queen will receive a 2011 Mini Cooper, courtesy of Stewart's Motors. The reigning queen, Kerry Baylis, along with former queens Lawrence and Beavers, joked that they may have entered the contest too early.
