Appleton Estate has launched the Appleton Estate Jamaica Rum International Bartender Challenge and Showcase to select the top bartenders from 10 of the brand's key markets.

The programme will see Appleton Estate Jamaica Rum run a bartender challenge in 10 key markets to select the top Appleton Estate Jamaica Rum bartender from that market. The winner of each Appleton Estate Bartender Challenge will have the opportunity to travel to Jamaica in October to represent his country at the Appleton Estate International Bartender Showcase to be held at the Hope Botanical Gardens on October 22. They will also visit the Appleton Estate, attend a private blending session with Appleton Estate's master blender, Joy Spence, and spend three nights of 'rum and relaxation' on Jamaica's north coast. The markets selected to participate are Jamaica, Australia, Canada, Cayman, Mexico, New Zealand, Peru, Spain, the United Kingdom and the United States.

Successful

David McConnell, Appleton Estate's managing director of global marketing, is looking forward to welcoming the bartenders to Jamaica.

"This programme is an extension of our very successful Appleton Estate Jamaica Rum United Kinggdom (UK) Bartender Challenge, which we ran in 2008 and 2009, where we brought the top three Appleton Estate bartenders from the UK to Jamaica to compete for the top bartender crown."

He continued: "This year we decided to select the top Appleton Estate Jamaica Rum bartender from 10 of our key markets and bring them all to Jamaica, the home of Appleton Estate Jamaica Rum, to showcase their talents to what will no doubt be a very appreciative Jamaican audience. We are also looking forward to taking them on a journey of discovery to the Appleton Estate as well as sharing with them some incredible Jamaican experiences and attractions."

At the Showcase, each bartender will man his own station where he will produce Appleton Estate Jamaica Rum cocktails made with Jamaican fruits and other specialities that he will have selected on trips to local markets and grocery stores on the days preceding the event.
