Wolmer’s Boys’ head coach Haron Martin believes his players have more than enough time to overturn their 1-0 deficit against Jamaica College (JC) after yesterday’s postponement of their ISSA Manning Cup Group A second-round fixture at Ashenheim Stadium.

The match between Wolmers and JC was postponed after the referee called off the game in the second half because of heavy rain.

JC had held a close 1-0 lead over the Wolmerians through a strike from Akheary Senior with approximately 30 minutes left on the clock.

Senior was subsequently sent off, reducing JC to 10 men, but persistent rain prevented Wolmer’s from making the most of their advantage before play was halted.

With the remainder of the game to be played in a rescheduled match to be decided by ISSA, Martin said he believes his players can recover and secure a positive result.

Martin explained he was prepared for the weather conditions to impact the game but was still left disappointed that it forced a delay.

“Really and truly, I believe the weather was going to be a factor as far as the game goes,” Martin said.

“These kind of conditions really and truly affected the way how we play. It’s not good for us.”

Despite the setback, Martin remained confident that Wolmer’s can turn the match around when the outstanding minutes are played.

He explained that the team had conceded cheaply against JC, but will be expecting a stronger performance from his players the next time they take to the field.

“We just have to go for it. It was a good game from the start. Unfortunately, we gave up, I would say, a soft goal, but there is still more than enough time for us to get back. Fortunately, we still have 27 more minutes to go,” Martin said.

The postponement could ultimately work in Wolmer’s favour, giving Martin and his players additional time to prepare for the resumption while JC must return to the contest with 10 men.

Wolmer’s entered the game second in Group A on six points, with JC sitting third on four. Both teams are competing for one of the four automatic qualifying spots to the next round.
