After missing the final of the women's 100 metres at the recent JAAA Puma National Senior and Junior Championships, Elaine Thompson-Herah will return to the track today at the Boris Hanžeković Memorial meet in Zagreb, a World Continental Tour Gold meet.
Thompson-Herah, a five-time Olympic champion, will make her first competitive trip to Europe since 2023, as part of a contingent of six Jamaicans.
With a season's best 10.92 seconds, achieved earlier this year at a meet in Kingston, she will line up against Brianna Lyston, who did not compete at the National Championships.
Lyston is coming off a victory a week ago when she clocked 10.99 seconds to win at a World Continental Tour Gold meet in Hengelo.
Another athlete, who was missing at the National Championships, two-time World Championships bronze medallist in the women's 400m hurdles, Rushell Clayton, will contest the 400m hurdles. She is coming off a second-place finish at the recent Diamond League meet in Doha and will once again clash with world leader Emma Zapletalová, who is also the Diamond League leader in the event.
Closing out competition on the track for Jamaica will be newly crowned national women's 400-metre champion Stacy-Ann Williams, the third-fastest Jamaican in the one-lap event this season. Williams was an easy winner at the National Stadium on Sunday, capturing her first senior national title.
Two Jamaicans will also be involved in field events duty at the meet, national champion Tajay Gayle in the long jump and Rajindra Campbell in the shot put.
Campbell got into the action after press time last night in a novel event that takes place on the street. Italy's Leonardo Fabbri and four-time world indoor champion Tom Walsh were also down to compete.
