Young Reggae Boyz put 12 past Cayman
Jamaica kept on track in their quest for a place in the 2026 Men’s Under-17 World Cup, while heaping pressure on group rivals Canada with a 12-0 drubbing of the Cayman Islands yesterday.
Striker Kelvin Brown scored in the Group G Concacaf Under-17 Men’s qualifiers in Costa Rica yesterday. Brown scored in the first, 44th, 72nd and 73rd minutes, while other goals came from Jahmarie Nolan (17th, 45th), Jamone Lyle (14th, 58th), Jaedon Morgan (48th), Tyraun Bembridge (76th, 88th) and an own goal.
The win placed Jamaica at the top of the group with maximum six points, ahead of second-placed Canada (also six points) on goal difference. Canada defeated Aruba 5-1 yesterday, but their goal difference of plus-seven is far inferior to Jamaica’s plus-15.
The game was still in its first minute when Brown fired home the opening goal. The Jamaicans continued to create good opening and in the 17th minute Nolan slotted home a second to establish Jamaica’s dominance.
Moments later, Lyle fired home from the edge of the box to add a third, as the Jamaicans looked to seal victory before half-time.
Brown then added a fourth and Nolan a fifth in first-half stoppage time to cap off a superb first-half display by the young Reggae Boyz.
Jamaica picked up where they left off in the second half, with Morgan extending the lead to 6-0, just three minutes into the half.
An own goal by Williams Kirksey in the 55th minute put the young Boyz 7-0 up, and Lyle added his second of the match in the 58th minute to take it to 8-0.
Brown then scored twice (72nd and 73rd) in a minute to take the score to 10-0, before Tyraun Bembridge added another two goals ( 76th, 88th) to seal an emphatic victory.
