Former national footballer faces cocaine charges
Former national footballer and Cornwall College head coach, Hector Wright, and wife Jodi-Ann Coke-Wright, have been charged with possession of cocaine and dealing in cocaine following a police operation at their Catherine Hall residence in Montego Bay, St James, on Thursday.
According to police reports, an operation was conducted about 1:15 p.m. at the couple’s two-storey dwelling, where lawmen uncovered containers holding suspicious substances.
Investigators from the Firearms and Narcotics Investigation Division later confirmed the substances to be more than 20 pieces of crack cocaine.
Wright, 56 years old and his 42-years-old wife, a customer service agent were subsequently taken into custody and charged by detectives attached to the Counter-Terrorism and Organised Crime Investigation Branch (C-TOC) Area 1 Gang Unit.
Wright and his wife are scheduled to appear in court on February 25.
Wright, a former national midfielder who made his debut in 1988 against Canada, going on to earn 110 caps for the country is one of the island’s most beloved players, known for his ability to unleash powerful shots from anywhere on the park.
Wright was also a standout for Seba United, now Montego Bay United, where he spent the majority of his career. He was also known for bringing Herbert Morrison High School its only daCosta Cup title.
He became head coach of Cornwall College last season, taking them to the Ben Francis Knockout finals where his team lost 2-0 to Clarendon College.
