ISSA rural netball resumes tomorrow
FOLLOWING a halt to the competition due to Hurricane Melissa, preliminary-round action in the rural Inter-Secondary Schools Sports Association (ISSA) schoolgirls netball competition will resume tomorrow.
Tomorrow’s games will be the final set of matches in the preliminary round before second-round play begins next Tuesday. Defending senior champions Holmwood Technical will be aiming to extend their unbeaten run when they host Bishop Gibson High in Zone A action at 10:30 a.m.
Coming off an easy 31-19 win over Mile Gully in their last match before the break, the Carline Graham-Powell–coached team should secure another victory before completing their fixtures two days later away to fellow unbeaten contenders Manchester High.
In what promises to be one of the most exciting junior clashes, pre-season favourites Denbigh High and neighbours Glenmuir will square off in a top-of-the-table Zone E showdown at Glenmuir tomorrow, starting at 11 a.m.
Both teams are unbeaten this season, and the winners are expected to top the zone going into next week’s second round. Glenmuir easily swept aside Thompson Town High 43-5 in their last outing, while Denbigh, coached by Winston Nevers, posted a commanding 57-6 win over the same opponents. Denbigh should start favourites to maintain their winning form.
