The fierce Glenmuir High-Garvey Maceo High rivalry in schoolboy football is set to continue, as the Clarendon powerhouses will face each other for the third time this season when they clash in the round of 16 of the ISSA daCosta Cup competition. The schools have been drawn in the same group, setting up another highly anticipated encounter.

Both schools topped their respective groups with seven points each in the recently concluded round of 32. Defending champions Garvey Maceo ended their campaign on a high, defeating Paul Bogle High 4-0 at home after being held to a surprise 1-1 draw away to Titchfield High in their previous outing.

Glenmuir, meanwhile, secured top spot in their group on goal difference after a 2–2 draw away to Manchester High in their final match. Both teams entered that game on six points, but Glenmuir’s superior goal difference, plus 13, compared to Manchester’s plus 5, earned them first place. This came after Glenmuir’s emphatic 10-0 win over St Mary High in their previous game at home.

Turning the tables

The upcoming clash promises fireworks, as both teams have one win apiece from their earlier meetings this season. Glenmuir struck first, crushing Garvey Maceo 4-0 in zone play away from home. However, the defending champions bounced back just a week later, turning the tables in dramatic fashion.

In that return match at Glenmuir, the home team looked set for another big win after taking a commanding 2-0 lead in the 46th minute. But in a spirited fightback, the Lester Hibbert-coached Garvey Maceo side silenced the home crowd with three unanswered goals to secure a stunning 3-2 victory and topped their zone.

Now, with both teams evenly matched and bragging rights once again on the line, the stage is set for another epic showdown. Fans can expect a thrilling contest as Garvey Maceo and Glenmuir battle for a coveted spot in the daCosta Cup quarter-finals.
