JAMAICA INTERNATIONAL Tyreek Magee has joined Jamaica Premier League (JPL) outfit Mount Pleasant Football Academy on a free transfer.

The club made the announcement on Sunday, with Magee set to take the field once his registration process with the JPL is completed.

The 26-year-old has been out of contract since leaving Vere United FC and has experience from both the international stage and overseas competitions.

The former Jamaica College captain, once heralded as one of the brightest prospects emerging from Jamaica’s schoolboy football system, has represented the national team, the Reggae Boyz, at various youth levels and has earned 16 senior international caps.

In its announcement, the St Ann-based club said Magee, who enjoyed professional spells in Belgium and the United States, developed technical skill and tactical understanding which are all qualities that Mount Pleasant FA believe will be instrumental in their ambitions for the 2025-26 season.

Speaking on his move, Magee expressed eagerness about getting back to doing what he loves.

“I have been training on my own for about two months as I tried to figure out what my next step would be. It was difficult for me mentally, as all I wanted to do was get back to playing the sport I love. Mount Pleasant has built a reputation as one of the most professional and forward-thinking clubs in Jamaica, hence my decision to make the move.

“I’m grateful for the opportunity to be part of this project and to contribute to the team’s success. I’m looking forward to playing in front of the Mount Pleasant supporters and helping the club achieve great things, both locally and regionally in the Concacaf competitions.”

Paul Christie, sporting director at Mount Pleasant FA, welcomed the signing, noting that “Tyreek is a player of immense quality and experience. He’s someone who understands the demands of top-level football, both locally and internationally. His addition strengthens our midfield and adds creativity, vision and composure on the ball. We believe his presence will elevate the level of our squad and help to lift the standard of play even higher. Once Tyreek became available, it was a no-brainer for us in trying to secure his signature, because we know what he is capable of and we want to help him achieve his full potential.”

Mount Pleasant, semi-finalists in this year’s Caribbean Club Championship, will next face Chapelton Maroons on Sunday at Drax Hall in the JPL.
