NINETY MINUTES, two draws, and no clear picture emerged from yesterday’s ISSA daCosta Cup Zone E play-offs.

BB Coke High School and Lacovia High found no way to separate themselves at the BB Coke playfield yesterday, while the same held true for the clash between St Elizabeth Technical High School and Maggotty High at Appleton Estate.

A late goal from Andrae Phillpot, helped Maggotty High rally from a goal down to draw 1-1 STETHS, while BB Coke had to do the same to earn a similar draw against Lacovia.

STETHS’ Timmari Roach took the lead in the 42nd minute, but the home team imploded in the 78th minute when Kenoy Baton was sent off for unsportsmanlike behaviour. Magotty capitalised on the numerical advantage when Andrae Phillpot equalised in the 84th minute.

Over at BB Coke, Lacovia’s Tyraun Bembridge scored from a free kick to take the lead in the 35th minute, but the hosts struck back six minutes later through Jimbo Campbell.

The result leaves BB Coke on top of the table with 15 points. STETHS are second on 13 points, with third- and fourth-placed, Magotty and Lacovia, respectively, tied on 10.

Assistant coach of Maggotty, Craig Thomas, welcomed the point.

“It means a lot for us today because going forward, it’s the points that really matter. Getting a draw from a tough opponent is very good. It sets us in prime position, so we can still contest for the other two games,” said Thomas,

“It was a very hard-fought game. We lapse a bit, but the guys pick up the pace in the second half. We came out playing better to make a switch tactically and that lead up to the goal,” said Thomas.

Meanwhile, BB Coke’s coach, Fitzroy Ambersely, said his result was the fault of profligacy in front of goal.

“We started off very slowly, miscontrolled some balls and weren’t pressing enough. Lacovia was winning all the first and second balls, and eventually they got a free kick and scored,” said Ambersely.

“We tweaked it in the midfield and it was blossoming, but I don’t think it bloomed enough. We couldn’t see any of the flowers coming out,” Ambersely added.
