‘IT IS GOING TO TAKE SOME TIME’
Mills warns that Kevona Davis’ resurgence requires patience
HEAD COACH of the Racers Track Club, Glen Mills, said he has been working assiduously with former national junior star Kevona Davis in a bid to have her return to her best form.
Mills confirmed that Davis, a former Edwin Allen standout, recently joined the University of the West Indies-based club and has been put through her paces by his coaching staff.
“Kevona Davis is back here in Jamaica and she has joined with us. We are working on getting her weight down, and she has done a good job,” Mills said.
The 76-year-old Mills, who recently coached Oblique Seville to the men’s 100-metre World Championships title in Tokyo, noted that the 23-year-old still has a lot to offer in the sport and said he was very impressed with her work ethic.
“When I look at her and I watch her in training, I think she still has it, but it is going to take some time,” said the veteran coach.
Mills, who is the former coach of Jamaican sprint legend Usain Bolt, also guided Nigerian Tobi Amusan to a silver medal in the women’s 100m hurdles at last month’s World Championships in Tokyo.
Davis, who is also a former University of Texas standout, holds personal best times of 10.95 in the 100m and 22.26 in the 200. She made the semi-finals of the women’s 200m at the 2023 World Athletics Championships in Budapest. She also won a bronze medal in the 100m at the World Under-18 Championships in Nairobi, Kenya, in 2017.
