Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone takes 400m crown, Pryce finishes eighth

Team USA phenom Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone took the women’s 400m world title in imperious form as she set a new championship record of 47.78 seconds at the Tokyo World Athletics Championships.

McLaughlin-Levrone powered home to the gold medal in impressive form as she was just outside the world record of 47.60.

Marileidy Paulino of the Dominican Republic was second in a national record, 47.98s, with Salwa Eid Naser third in 48.19s.

Nickisha Pryce, the reigning national champion, was eighth in 49.97s.
