Rideallday has too much for open-allowance company
UNBEATEN IN his last four races, a record of five wins from six starts, United States-bred RIDEALLDAY returns to sprinting in Saturday’s open allowance at five and a half furlongs after posting three consecutive middle-distance victories.
Among a trio of Philip Feanny foreigners taking on two locals, Jason DaCosta’s CALIFORNIA CROWN and Gary Subratie’s MONEY MARKET, RIDEALLDAY is expected to continue his arch to grade one, aiming at December’s US$300,000 Mouttet Mile.
Ironically, RIDEALLDAY debuted as a two-year-old on last year’s Mouttet Mile card, clocking 1:06.1 for five and a half furlongs, a time all runners in the day’s big feature would have envied. Returning as the 1-5 favourite to repeat three weeks later, RIDEALLDAY was surprisingly caught at the wire by fellow American UNSPUN, who clocked 1:13.0 for six furlongs.
Taken off the front lines for six months by Feanny, RIDEALLDAY reported in a mean mood early June, a seven-length win at five and a half furlongs, going unbeaten since and looking stronger with each instance.
CALIFORNIA CROWN, last year’s gate-to-wire 2000 Guineas winner, hasn’t won at the higher level in three starts since beating MONEY MARKET at five furlongs round in an overnight allowance on June 21.
Having twice beaten overnight-allowance company, CALIFORNIA CROWN continues to struggle against the foreigners in open-allowance races, brushed off the lead by PACK PLAYS in the BGLC Trophy on August 1.
Though CALIFORNIA CROWN is expected to try stealing a march, RIDEALLDAY’s Sunday-morning gallop, 1:06.4 for five and a half furlongs, the last five in 59.4, suggests he should be able to reel in the local-bred, no matter how far he gets ahead.
