KC hunt second win in Manning Cup
Defending champions Kingston College (KC) will be seeking their second consecutive victory in this season’s ISSA/WATA Manning Cup competition when they take on hosts Kingston Technical High School (KTHS) today in Zone B. Match time is 3:30 p.m.
KC, who are highly favoured to retain their title this season, kicked off their campaign last Saturday with a 3-0 victory over Charlie Smith High in a very competitive match-up. The Vassell Reynolds-coached team scored all three goals in the second half of the match.
KTHS are not expected to mount a great challenge as they were soundly beaten 4-0 by Jose Marti High in their opening match of the season on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, the zone leaders, Tivoli High, fresh off their 7-0 win over Denham Town High, will go for win number two when they oppose Charlie Smith. The Christopher Nicholas-coached Tivoli, who made it to the quarterfinals of last season’s competition, have retained 12 players from last season’s team.
“I think it’s really not a bad team this season, and so we are expecting great things from these youngsters,” said Nicholas.
“Last year we went to the quarterfinals, and we were just three points away from the semi-finals of the competition, and so the aim this year is to go all the way. We believe that we can do it because I know that they have it in them. We just have to make sure that they capitalise on every opportunity that they get,” Nicholas added.
