Williams wants more points for George’s this year
AFTER FINISHING fifth in the class 2 110-metre hurdles and seventh in the 400-metre hurdles for St George’s College at the ISSA/GraceKennedy Boys and Girls’ Athletics Championships last year, Fransico Williams hopes to earn more solid points for his team this year, despite competing in class 1 for the first time.
“I want to do better than I did last year, even though it’s my first year in this class. I want to help my team improve on their eighth-place finish from last year,” said Williams, who also found success at the Carifta Games, winning bronze in the 400-metre hurdles and gold as part of the country’s under-17 4x400m relay team.
“It has been a slow buildup for me this season because of injury, but I think I’ll be ready for Champs,” said Williams, who was competing at the recent Carifta Trials at G. C. Foster College.
Williams shared that he enjoys the 400-metre hurdles more than the 110 hurdles.
“I prefer the 400m hurdles because I get more time to recover from any early mistakes in the race,” he explained.
He also wants to perform well to inspire his teammates.
“I want to go out there and give my best so I can motivate my teammates. We all want to do well in the end,” he said.
Williams remains confident about his team’s chances at Champs.
“I truly believe we can finish in the top six. We have three quality coaches who have been working really well with the team,” he said.
