Reggae Girl Wilson joins Saints on loan from Birmingham
REGGAE GIRL Siobhan Wilson will, for the remainder of the Women’s Championship season, play for Southampton FC after the two brokered a loan agreement announced on Friday.
The versatile left-sided player, who has been with Birmingham since 2022, returned to action last March, after recovering from an ACL injury, saying she is excited about her journey with the Saints.
“Hey Saints fans, it’s Shiv here. Can’t wait to get started and to see you for the second half of the season,” she said in an Instagram post shared with Saints FC Women page.
The Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) also expressed their congratulations in an Instagram post.
“Congratulations are in order for our Reggae Girl Siobhan Wilson who has joined Southampton FC. Wilson scored her first goal for Jamaica in November in a 3-0 win over South Africa.”
The 30-year-old was born and raised in England to British-Jamaican father, Clive Wilson, who was also a professional football player.
Wants consistency
Before donning the blue of Birmingham, Wilson plied her trade for Crystal Palace and for Charlton, but today, she just wants consistency.
“For me it’s about getting consistency with game time and trying to get back on the pitch, I’m feeling good and ready. I want to help the team as much as I can, whether that’s providing assists or whatever I can do to add value,” she told southamptonfc.com.
Speaking on the same forum, Southampton coach Remi Allen said the club was delighted to have her for the remainder of the season.
“It’s great to see her back fit and firing after her injury, and I’m excited to work with her for the rest of the campaign,” said Allen.
According to Allen, Wilson’s character makes her a real asset.
“I know the type of character she is and she’ll bring some good energy to the squad on and off the pitch,” he said.
