FORMER NATIONAL player and Manning Cup star Nigel ‘Pummie’ Goodison will be laid to rest this morning at a funeral service at the St Andrew Parish Church at 10:30 a.m.

Goodison passed away on March 4 at the Kingston Public Hospital. He represented St George’s College in the Manning Cup, St George’s Old Boys in the old Division One, and Harbour View FC in the Major League.

He also represented the Jamaica national team as a schoolboy before taking up a scholarship to Michigan University.

Nigel’s older brother and renowned radio disc jockey, Vaughan ‘Bunny’ Goodison, said ‘Pummie’, who also did track and field at school, and was a dominant football player.

“From he was growing up he had an inclination to play good football. I use to help him and teach him little things I know.

“But because of his height he became a dominant schoolboy player and played for Jamaica against Haiti as a schoolboy.

“He was an outstanding Manning Cup player and for Jamaica as a schoolboy,” he commented.

Bunny, who played music for over 40 years at the Jamaica Broadcasting Corporation, RJR, and Hot 102fm, also captained St George’s Division One and Senior Cup cricket teams.

He is one of seven remaining siblings from nine, which also included famous radio talk show host Barbara Gloudon, who passed away in 2022.

“Barbara was the first (child) and Nigel was the last,” Bunny noted.

“A lot of his schoolmates have been calling and offering condolences, and we expect them to come. So we are expecting a lot of support.”
