JOSHUA FRAZER’S connections are promising to step up his training regime with world-class talent in their efforts to strengthen his boxing craft and build his ranking.

The Jamaican welterweight fighter added Mexican Estaban Villalba to his knockout list at the CCA Centre in Brampton, Ontario, Canada, on Friday. The 28-year-old defeated his opponent in two rounds for his sixth knockout from as many pro fights.

Joshua controlled the fight and took little time to wear down the Mexican, scoring a decisive knockout win over his very experienced opponent, who has 43 fights to his credit.

The Jamaican boxer has been enjoying a meteoric rise in the boxing world, and his coach and father, Dewith Frazer, said that the boxing public cannot get enough of the rising star.

“So far, everyone is pleased, the audience and the people watching him really like how he is progressing. They are very excited and cannot wait to see him again, because he brings a certain excitement,” Dewith noted.

“People like to support a winner and they feel they have a winner in Joshua. Bigger fights will come around and, when the bigger fights come, we will try to continue the same pattern. But we are also learning to do some different things. So when those tasks come around, he will be ready,” the elder Frazer pointed out.

NEXT LEVEL

The aim from here on, Dewith insists, is to keep Joshua focused and motivated to take his game to the next level.

“For his next fight, I will be bringing in a world-class sparring partner who is a world-class fighter, and that is going to be a test to see where he is,” Dewith shared. “He has won all fights by knockout, so there are no doubts left in the room. We have to keep him in line and keep him focused.”

He added: “With every win, comes more obstacles, so the key right now is to keep him on track and continue what he has been doing. It hasn’t been easy. It has been a lot of work but he has been doing well.”

Coming out of Friday’s fight, Dewith said that he was particularly impressed with the fighter’s patience and maturity, as the six-foot three-inch boxer continues to enhance his growing reputation.

“Joshua is an experienced fighter and, the opponent he fought, we thought the guy would give Joshua some rounds. But Joshua is in good shape. He is a real disciplined fighter and he is just doing what is necessary right now.”

Continuing, Dewith said: “However, in the last couple of fights, we believe he had been rushing things, but on Friday he was a bit relaxed and went through the process. He has a lot of energy and youth and sometimes he wants to do things in haste, but we explained to him that there is no rush, he has eight rounds and we are very pleased as a team how his fight went on the weekend.”

Frazer was one of four Jamaicans who won on the United Promotions card. The others were Ricardo ‘Big 12’ Brown, Gregory Miller and Shakeel Phinn.
