SAN PEDRO SULA, Honduras (CMC):

Nathaniel James scored twice but Trinidad and Tobago (T&T) were forced to settle for a share of the points after substitute Bryan Destin’s 90th-minute strike earned Haiti a thrilling 4-4 draw in the Concacaf Men’s Under-20 Championship.

Playing in their opening Group F contest on Sunday, James put the Trinidadians ahead at the Estadio Morazan as early as the second minute but a flurry of goals both in the first and second half ensured the pendulum always swung.

Watz Leazard equalised for the French Caribbean side on the half-hour mark before Kaihim Thomas and Steevenson Jeudy both netted for their respective sides to tie the game 2-2 at the break.

Jeudy added a second in the 53rd as Haiti sneaked ahead but substitute Real Gill (70th) and James (72) scored in the space of three minutes to give T&T the advantage, before Destin spoiled their party.

In a stunning start to the game, James smashed in a left-footed shot from close range after Haiti failed to clear a loose ball.

Leazard responded for the Haitians, swinging in a drive after goalkeeper Jahiem Wickham had parried a long-range shot before a quick exchange of goals followed.

First, Thomas netted in the 42nd for Trinidad when he curled a brilliant free kick over a five-man wall from 20 yards out while Jeudy scored from the spot after Wickham rushed off his line and committed a rash challenge.

In the second half, Jeudy found the target again early when he nodded in a corner from seven yards, giving Haiti a crucial 3-2 lead which appeared to be holding.

However, Gill then beat three players with a mazy run on the left before blasting home a left-footed drive and James slotted home moments later, finishing off an impressive build-up.

With time ticking away at the end, T&T were in sight of full points when Kyan Champagne squared a pass into the box for Destin to prod home from close range as the Trinidadian defence broke down.

Last Saturday, Jamaica drew 1-1 with Costa Rica.
