Having won his first race of the season, veteran jockey Everton Miller says he is hungry for more victories at Caymanas Park this year.

Miller, who has been riding for more than 45 years, produced a well-timed run aboard I’VE GOT MAGIC to upstage REGNANT with Omar Walker in the saddle by the short head and to win last Saturday’s eighth event at Caymanas Park.

Miller’s victory was only his second in the past two years at the track.

“I know that, once I get the good rides, that I am going to win a lot of races,” said Miller. “That is all I need because I have been riding for 45 years and so I know how to win,” he said.

“Everybody down here knows that I am an excellent jockey because I always ride to win races, and so I am just looking forward to winning more races this year,” Miller said.

MAINTAINING FITNESS

Miller underscored that his body is in excellent condition at the moment because he has been working out every day to maintain his fitness.

“I can’t do anything without the horses, so I need the horses to win races. I am 55 years old and I don’t have any plans to retire any time soon because it is the love for riding that keeps me going and I try to stay fit and eat healthy all the time,” he said.

“I am very fit because I have my skipping rope and I play a lot of football, and I work out in the gym and I also jog every morning,” Miller stated.

He explained that he was very confident that I’VE GOT MAGIC would have won last Saturday, once he got a clean break.

“I tried to get a good break. He didn’t miss the break at the start like the last time that I rode him, and so I just sat close to the pace and asked him to run in the last furlong, and he did just that for me,” Miller said.

“I just want to thank trainer, Mr (Phillip) Feanny, and the owner, for the opportunity to ride this horse,” he said.
