Nevers questions Clarendon netball restart
Clarendon Netball Association vice-president Winston Nevers says the likelihood of a restart of the netball season in Clarendon is questionable after no word from the Government.
Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, Nevers supported Netball Jamaica’s decision to cancel the 2020 netball season.
However, recent news surrounding the resumption of the ISSA basketball, netball, and football competitions has provided an avenue for a possible continuation of the Clarendon league.
“There is nothing in place right now, but we are just discussing, if we should start the league, how we will go about it,” Nevers told The Gleaner.
Further decisions on urban and rural netball competitions by ISSA will be factored in to provide clarity on what is to come for the league.
“I was thinking of running the Juici Patties League in September if the ISSA schoolgirls’ league is not playing because I understand that they are going to play the schoolboys’ league, the ISSA/WATA DaCosta and ISSA/Digicel Manning Cup,” Nevers said.
Netball Jamaica president Tricia Robinson, however, had no comment regarding the league.
PROTOCOLS
Additionally, a restart of the season must take into consideration the necessary protocols to provide a safe and smooth-sailing resumption.
“There are a lot of schools in our league, so we would have to send letters to the schools to ask for their participation because they are sceptical about a lot of things now,” Nevers said.
A stringent attitude towards sanitation and safety was displayed concerning what will be required for a potential upcoming season.
“The availability of tents, proper sanitisation, cleansing the ball as often as possible, ensuring the constant washing of hands, and the idea of teams leaving the compound as soon as they are finished,” Nevers explained.
