CHAMPIONS: Gleaner tops NADB KO
An inspirING performance from the pair of Bernard Blackwood and Gary Mowatt carried The Gleaner to a 76-59 victory over favourites, Campari, in the final of the National Association of Domino Bodies Kingston and St Andrew region Wray & Nephew White Overproof Rum Knockout Championship yesterday.
close victory
Campari entered the final on the back of a record 12 consecutive victories in all competitions (league and knockout) and after easily getting by the Jamaica Urban Transit Company in the semi-finals, was installed as clear favourites to beat The Gleaner which had laboured to a close victory over National Baking Company in the other semi-final.
But pushed by Mowatt and Blackwood, who were voted MVP of the final, and match winning changes from captain Michael Brown, The Gleaner quickly assumed the lead and strolled home comfortably.
"We have gone without a title for a long, long time after the years when we ruled domino in the Corporate Area so this victory is very special," said Brown.
"Now that we have this out of the way, our next target is to win the league and I am confident that we have the players to do it. To defeat an unbeaten team by 17 points in a final shows that this Gleaner team is very special," added Brown.
