THE CARIBBEAN Shipping Association (CSA) sponsored a one-day OSHA Combi Safety Course in Paramaribo as a gesture of thanks to Suriname for hosting the CSA’s 55th Annual General Meeting, Conference & Exhibition.

Run in daily, one-day cohorts across two weeks, the programme took place on October 14–16 and October 21–23, training 105 participants from the maritime, port, warehouse and construction sectors.

Delivered by De Ruyter Training & Consultancy at the VSH United and DP World facilities, the sessions combined classroom instruction with hands-on exercises. Topics included OSHA and local safety regulations, personal protective equipment and dust-mask fit testing, working at heights and confined-space safety, forklift, electrical and LOTOTO safety, load lifting, ergonomics, and integrated practical drills.

CSA President William Brown said the initiative reflects the Association’s pledge to leave a skills legacy wherever it convenes. “Safety is the first line of productivity. By investing in practical, standards-based training with our Surinamese partners, we are strengthening established safety practices, sharpening skills, and aligning daily operations with international benchmarks across the logistics chain,” he said.

Each participant received a three-year certification card, underscoring the CSA’s ongoing commitment to safety, capacity building and professional development across the region. As part of its ongoing practice of sponsoring post-conference training in each host country, the CSA staged the course as a contribution to local capacity building and to ensure a lasting skills legacy for industry stakeholders.
