THE SHIPPING Association of Jamaica (SAJ) will host an online inventory management workshop aimed at equipping industry professionals with the skills to optimise their stock control processes.

The two-day workshop, scheduled for September 17 and 18, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily, will be facilitated and certified by the Management Institute for National Development.

The workshop is designed to address the critical role of inventory management in the shipping and logistics industry. Effective stock control is essential for maintaining customer satisfaction, reducing costs, and improving overall operational efficiency. By providing participants with a comprehensive understanding of inventory management principles, the SAJ aims to empower industry professionals to improve their performance and contribute to the sector’s growth.

Course content will cover a wide range of topics, including the importance of inventory records, methods of recording inventory, inventory location systems, storage conditions, inventory replenishment systems, safety procedures for inventory taking, and ethical issues in inventory management. Participants will also learn about different inventory valuation methods and inventory control systems.

Upon completion of the workshop, participants will be able to define key inventory management terms, explain the importance of inventory management, identify different methods of inventory management, recognise the link between inventory records and good customer service, maintain proper inventory management systems, utilise different methods of inventory taking, implement control measures related to inventory management, and maintain health and safety procedures when dealing with inventory items. They will also develop a strong appreciation for the importance of upholding ethical standards in inventory management.

This workshop is ideal for shipping and logistics professionals, particularly those involved in warehouse management, supply chain coordination, or purchasing. Participants can significantly develop their organisation’s performance by mastering efficient inventory control practices.

Optimised stock levels contribute to reduced operational costs by minimising storage expenses and preventing costly stockouts that disrupt shipping schedules, while accurate inventory records ensure timely and complete order fulfilment, leading to heightened customer satisfaction.

With the outlined changes, businesses can compete more effectively on the global stage. By improving inventory levels and processes, companies can increase their agility and responsiveness to market demands.

Interested participants can register by contacting the SAJ at pallen@jamports.com. Space is limited, so early registration is encouraged.
