'Tek A Stand 2' stands tall

Not even the threat of rain, which pelted sections of western Jamaica, could prevent fans from attending Tek A Stand 2, which was staged at Pineapple Beach in Unity Hall, St James, on Sunday.

Dubbed the 'ultimate all-inclusive fÍte of the season', the event, in its third year, got off to a late start as dark clouds hung threateningly over the scenic location.

However, DJ Craig Ross, who was at the controls, began whetting the appetites of party revellers as he ripped through his catalogue - to the delight of the early birds.

However, nothing seems able to warm the heart of the fairer sex than soca music, and they promptly brought the party to a boil, obeying the instructions of soca songs like Bunji Garlin's Differentology, Allison Hinds' Roll It Gyal, and the ever-popular Machel Montana's She Ready and Float.

Attorney-at-law Gordon Brown, of the Square Biz Boys, told Outlook, "This event started two years ago. We wanted to have a proper party with a certain quality, feel and finish, an adult event, yet something that everyone can enjoy. We ensured that it had the correct elements of music, talent, personnel and personalities to make sure it came off well, and so far, so good."

According to Brown, the event is the major fundraiser for one of the oldest Masonic lodges in Jamaica, which started in 1818. The group is also hoping to use some of the proceeds from the event to establish a scholarship fund in honour

of one of Jamaica's most iconic public

figures.

For the perspiration-soaked, gyrating patrons, it was an opportunity to contribute to a worthy cause while having fun with family with the backdrop of the Caribbean Sea and music flowing non-stop. Notwithstanding, it was a welcome relief for some when the DJ slowed the pace down, coincidentally around the same time the Outlook team was leaving the venue.
