An alleged dispute over noise during a World Cup football match is alleged to have escalated into a fatal stabbing involving relatives in St Catherine on Wednesday night.

Dead is 23-year-old Lamar Mullings, an unemployed man of Bowie Road in Ewarton, St Catherine.

Reports are that about 8 p.m., a football match was being shown on television when Mullings, who was in bed, allegedly asked that the volume be turned down.

It is alleged that the 25-year-old suspect, said to be his uncle, refused, and an argument developed between the two men.

Police say the dispute escalated into a physical confrontation during which the suspect allegedly used a knife to stab Mullings in the chest.

Mullings was assisted to the Linstead Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The suspect was taken into custody by the Ewarton police on suspicion of murder.
