The police in St Thomas have launched a manhunt for a group of gunmen who opened fire on cops following a chase that stemmed from a traffic stop.

The police said no member of the police party was injured; however, the service vehicle sustained gunshot damage.

The incident is being investigated by the Independent Commission of Investigations.

According to police reports, on Thursday, January 29, officers were on patrol along the Albion main road in St Thomas when the driver of a Toyota Noah motor vehicle was signalled to stop.

The driver allegedly disobeyed the instruction and sped away, prompting a chase.

Upon reaching White Horses, the driver reportedly turned onto Stanmore Lane and came to a sudden stop.

Three men then exited the vehicle and fired several shots at the police party, who returned fire.

The gunmen escaped on foot into nearby bushes in the Hamburg Lane area.
