Policeman mowed down by taxi operator in Clarendon

A Clarendon taxi operator has been taken into police custody after he allegedly mowed down a policeman along Church Street in May Pen today.

Reports are that sometime after 2:00 p.m., the policeman and two other colleagues were on duty along the roadway when the cop signalled a taxi to stop.

It is alleged that the officer stepped out to stop the vehicle and was struck by the cabbie.

The injured policeman was rushed to hospital, where he is currently receiving treatment.

His condition has not been disclosed.

The taxi driver was taken into custody.

Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
