US national dies in Ocho Rios car crash

A United States national died following injuries sustained in a vehicular crash in Ocho Rios, St Ann, on Friday.

It's reported that the man, 64, was a passenger in a white 2012 Toyota Mark X motor car driven by a 31-year-old man.

According to reports, at around 3 p.m., upon reaching a section of Pineapple main road in Ocho Rios, the driver swerved to avoid a collision with an oncoming vehicle.

He reportedly lost control, and the car collided with a utility pole, struck a wall, and overturned.

The occupants sustained severe injuries and were taken to St Ann’s Bay Hospital, where the American was pronounced dead.

The driver of the Toyota Mark X was warned for prosecution.

A police report said the possible cause of the crash included excessive speeding with no regard to conditions, failure to keep to the nearside and swerving.

The Ocho Rios Traffic Department is conducting an investigation into the incident.

Also yesterday, a pedal cyclist died following a collision involving a white motor truck .

Police say the crash may have been caused by excessive speeding, inattention, distraction, or an apparent error of judgment or negligence.
