Fire guts building in Spanish Town, worker escapes through second-floor window
A law office and a residential premises located on a three-storey building in Spanish Town, St Catherine have been destroyed by a fire.
A furniture store on the ground floor of the property, which is located at the corner of Williams Street and Young Street, also suffered damage.
The blaze, which started shortly after 11:00 p.m. on Friday, spread rapidly through the building.
Residents raised an alarm.
Firefighters from the Spanish Town Fire Department responded and worked to contain the inferno, but despite their efforts, the structure was gutted.
In a dramatic turn, a staff member who was inside the building at the time of the fire managed to escape by jumping from a second-floor window.
The individual reportedly sustained minor injuries.
Preliminary estimates suggest that the damage could amount to several million dollars.
Cooling-down operations continued into Saturday morning.
Firefighters say they were hampered by low water pressure.
The cause of the fire is being investigated.
