Police recover firearm in shooting and suspected suicide in Above Rocks
The police have recovered the firearm used in Tuesday's suspected suicide and shooting in Above Rocks, St Catherine.
The Gleaner understands that the Beretta pistol, along with two live nine-millimetre rounds, was found at the home of the man said to have carried out a shooting and then turned the weapon on himself.
He has been identified as 71-year-old Lloyd 'Percy' Purcell of Springfield district in Above Rocks.
“When the police got to his home, he was found lying on the ground bleeding… he was assisted to hospital where he was pronounced dead,” a source close to the investigation told The Gleaner.
The Gleaner reported yesterday that Purcell was found with what appeared to be a self-inflicted wound to the head in a section of the community known as Golden River.
Purcell is being accused of shooting a man with whom he had a long-standing dispute.
The incident occurred about 2:30 p.m.
The injured man remains admitted in hospital in serious but stable condition.
The Spanish Town Criminal Investigation Branch is investigating.
