The security guard who reportedly made off with over $15 million from a Beryllium money courier vehicle has been caught after a seven-day manhunt, the police have confirmed.

The 42-year-old guard was arrested at premises in St Andrew late Thursday, according to the St Andrew Central Police, who are leading the investigation.

Guardsman Limited, the security company to which he was employed, also confirmed that it was aware of the arrest of the guard.

A statement from Beryllium Limited, which is affiliated with Guardsman, did not say whether the stolen money has been recovered.

“This was not simply about recovering stolen funds, it was about defending the integrity of the hundreds of men and women who put their lives on the line every day to provide essential services to Jamaica’s businesses and banks,” said David Whittaker, Group Managing Director, Guardsman Group of Companies.

“Beryllium stands unwavering in its commitment to ensuring that any individual involved in wrongdoing or unethical practices connected to our company faces the severest form of justice available under the law. We will never tolerate actions that undermine the trust, safety, or reputation of our team or our clients," he said.

The police said the investigation is ongoing.

The security guard was part of a three-man team that reportedly went to collect cash from MegaMart in St Andrew on October 11.

It’s reported that he remained behind while his colleagues went inside.

When they returned the guard and the cash, said to be between $15 and $20 million, were missing.

He left behind his uniform and the firearm he was issued with by the company.
