UDC says access to Little Dunn's River free
The Urban Development Corporation (UDC) is emphasising that access to Little Dunn’s River in St Ann is free of charge and any attempt by unauthorised persons to collect money, obstruct entry, or operate businesses on the property without permission is illegal.
The Corporation also says it is working closely with law enforcement and other government agencies to address any breaches and ensure the safety and integrity of the site.
The UDC was responding to media reports this week that individuals are unlawfully charging members of the public to enter the property.
It also clarified that access to the shoreline area at Little Dunn’s River has not been removed. It said several years ago, installed steps to facilitate safe access to the coastline, and that access remains in place.
To further promote safety and secure the property, the UDC is currently carrying out repairs to sections of the perimeter fencing that have been eroded or removed, the agency said in a media release Thursday.
"UDC recognises the value that the community places on access to Little Dunn’s River. As such, access is currently permitted on weekends during the ongoing perimeter fence repairs. Visitors are reminded that they enter and use the area at their own risk, and are urged to exercise caution due to the absence of lifeguards and safety infrastructure," it said.
The UDC said it remains committed to engaging with the relevant authorities and stakeholders to develop a sustainable management framework for the site.
