Case dismissed against St Catherine accountant accused of fraudulently using company credit card
The case against a St Catherine accountant who was accused of fraudulently using a company credit card was dismissed on Tuesday after her employer told the court that she no longer wanted to continue with the matter.
As a result, Camay Beckford, of Old Harbour, who was charged with unauthorised access to computer data, was freed by Senior Parish Court Judge Janelle Nelson-Gayle
Beckford's attorney Rodain Richardson, while happy for his client, said that her reputation has been damaged by the incident, which he said should have been resolved internally.
"While she welcomes the outcome of the case, the damage to her reputation has already been done. We do hope that she will be allowed to rebuild her career," Richardson said.
Allegations were that Beckford was employed as a Senior Accountant at Home Choice Jamaica.
Checks by the management revealed that between June 1, 2025 and August 25, 2025, Beckford allegedly used a company-issued credit card to conduct several transactions amounting to $162,977 unrelated to the company.
A report was made to the police and Beckford was taken into custody.
The police conducted a question-and-answer session in the presence of her lawyer, following which she was charged.
