Thirty million contributed by credit unions on education

Over $30 million was awarded in secondary and tertiary bursaries and scholarships by credit unions islandwide during August and September 2025.

Education has always been a priority for credit unions, as the movement emphasizes not only financial education, part of its seven cooperative principles, but also the need to support Jamaican youth in pursuing their educational goals.

Contributions from various credit unions include:

- $3.7 million from 40 bursaries and scholarships provided by Manchester Co-operative Credit Union.

- $2.3 million disbursed to over 42 students from JDF Co-operative Credit Union.

- $3.8 million awarded to fifteen students and three entrepreneurs from First Heritage Co-operative Credit Union.

- $1.2 million through 51 scholarships from various sources.

- $160,000 in school grants for five members from NAJ & Health Services Co-operative Credit Union.

- $500,000 distributed among seventeen students from Grace Co-operative Credit Union.

- $7 million in scholarships awarded to 128 students by Infiniti Co-operative Credit Union.

- $3.7 million given to 48 students from JPS & Partners Co-operative Credit Union.

- $6.3 million disbursed to 51 students associated with the JTA Co-operative Credit Union.

- $450,000 allocated to three students from Insurance Employees Co-operative Credit Union.

- $1.8 million distributed to 63 students from Public Sector Employees Co-operative Credit Union.

- $1.2 million in scholarships and bursaries provided by Jamaica Police Co-operative Credit Union for 68 students.

- $2 million awarded to 10 students connected to First Regional Co-operative Credit Union.

- $2.5 million distributed to 86 students from Trelawny Co-operative Credit Union.

- $255,000 in scholarships and bursaries from National & Community Co-operative Credit Union for ten students.

- $8.7 million awarded to over 200 students from C&WJ Co-operative Credit Union.

The Jamaica Co-operative Credit Union League Limited presented a portion of this funding during the Credit Unions of Jamaica Bursary and Scholarship Award ceremony held on September 12 at Pollyanna.
