Jamaican quarter-miler Junelle Bromfield and American sprint star Noah Lyles, fresh off World Championships glory, have been baptised, declaring devotion to Christ.

The engaged couple got baptised together on Sunday and announced it on Instagram, posting Joshua 24:15: “But if serving the Lord seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve… But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord.”

"Noah has always been a Christian and he has baptised before. I never been baptized before today because I wanted to do it when I was ready and not out of fear. Many times I have gone to the altar but never committed because I felt like I was doing it for the wrong reasons,"Bromfield told The Gleaner.

The couple, who train, compete, and live together, now worship together as well. “We have been going to church, praying, and trying to get closer to God because we wanted Him in the middle of our relationship."

Their decision came a week after Lyles’ performance at the 2025 Tokyo World Athletics Championships, where he secured his fourth 200m world title, gold in the 4x100m relay, and bronze in the men’s 100m.

Bromfield, who owns 4x400m medals across the Olympics, World Indoors, and World Championships, did not compete this year but celebrated with her fiancé trackside.

“He (God) has given so much to both of us,” Bromfield said. “Before celebrating or going on vacation, we wanted to get baptized and surrender to God because He has blessed us generously.”

Bromfield also shared a personal testimony, recalling that as a struggling high school student her faith shaped her choices. After finding $4,000 in a wallet when she only had $50 for food, she returned it rather than keep it.

“Since that day, so many people have made an impact on my life,” she said. Support from teachers, coaches, and even a bus driver helped her excel athletically and academically, leading to her standout senior career.

“And with everything I did leading up to where I am, I never needed because He (God) has always provided. That’s why I decided to not just accept Him verbally but to get baptized,” she added.

As for what comes next, Bromfield said: “I honestly don’t know. Hopefully apart from us growing closer to God both individually and together, we can also create healthy friendships with God-fearing people. This is Noah’s second baptism; he did it because he wanted us to go on this spiritual journey together.”

The couple has chosen to keep the name of their church private for now.
