St Mary farmer charged after machete attack
Fifty-two-year-old farmer Cleveland Hird, also known as ‘Prick’ of Gibraltar Heights, Annotto Bay, St Mary, has been charged for chopping a man in a machete attack in his community.
Hird was charged on Saturday with wounding with intent.
Reports from the Annotto Bay police are that about 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, September 16, a dispute erupted between Hird and another man after the man was accused of roping cows on a portion of land that Hird was managing.
According to reports, during the confrontation, the man struck Hird with a piece of steel before being repeatedly chopped by Hird with a machete.
The injured man was transported to hospital, where he was admitted.
Following the incident, a report was made to the police Hird was taken into custody.
He was charged on Saturday, September 21, after a question-and-answer session.
His court date is being finalised.
