Marathon Insurance Brokers has stepped up its islandwide expansion drive with the opening of a new branch in Santa Cruz, St Elizabeth on Wednesday, September 17.

This strategic move by the company cements the town’s role as a growing commercial hub and signals its intent to bring insurance services directly into the heart of communities beyond the Corporate Area.

Marathon President and CEO Levar Smith said Santa Cruz was deliberately chosen to meet the needs of residents in St. Elizabeth, a parish he described as dynamic and on the uptick, especially since the ravages of Hurricane Beryl last year.

“Insurance is about people. It is about relationships, whether in person or online. It is about having someone you can connect with, one who understands your needs and can guide you every step of the way. That is why today is so significant.”

Marathon has a strong presence in Kingston; Montego Bay; St James; Portmore, St. Catherine; and now Santa Cruz, in St. Elizabeth.

“But, we are not stopping here. We are expanding our footprints with plans already under way to establish offices in Mandeville, May Pen, Portland, and Ocho Rios,” Smith said.Jamaica Chamber of Commerce director Winsome Callum, who was keynote speaker at the launch, praised the company’s investment in Santa Cruz, calling it a recognition of the town’s resilience and potential.

“Santa Cruz has always been a hub,” Callum said. “If you look back in history, Santa Cruz was leading in agriculture and commerce many decades ago. By investing here, Marathon Insurance Brokers is declaring that this town’s best days are not behind it, but still ahead.”

Callum, who is also communications director at the Jamaica Public Service (JPS), noted that the community had shown strength in recovering from Hurricane Beryl last year and that the new branch reflects confidence in Santa Cruz’s future.

“This is not just a corporate milestone. This is an event that celebrates a business expansion, but it also celebrates a legacy and a promise for the future,” she remarked. “Great things start here.”

President Smith also outlined Marathon’s journey and vision for the future. “For 35 years, Marathon has been proud to serve Jamaica by protecting lives, families, and businesses. Our journey began with a vision to simplify insurance, to make it accessible, and to provide the kind of service that gives people peace of mind when they need it most.”

Smith highlighted the company’s digital advancements, including its online motor platform that has helped thousands of Jamaicans access coverage quickly and conveniently. But, he noted, technology alone is not enough.

“As much as we celebrate digital progress, we are proud that we also made the time to carefully listen to our clients,” he explained. The Santa Cruz branch will provide both general and life insurance solutions under one roof, offering services ranging from motor and property insurance to policies that safeguard families and businesses.

Thanking staff, clients, and partners for their role in the company’s success, Smith affirmed

Marathon’s commitment to its various stakeholders. “Let us celebrate not just a new office, but

a stronger connection with the people we serve. This is the beginning of another exciting step

in Marathon’s journey. And together, we will go the distance.”
