St Ann mechanic charged with fraud and larceny over missing vehicle
A Drax Hall, St Ann mechanic and auto body repairman has been charged following an investigation into a missing vehicle that was entrusted in his care.
Forty-year-old Jean Bourgeois is charged with fraudulent conversion and larceny of a motor vehicle.
Reports from the St Ann’s Bay police are that between November 01, 2021 and August 20, 2025, the complainant delivered a white 2021 Toyota Hilux, valued at approximately $9.5 million, to Bourgeois for repairs.
The estimated cost of repairs was $700,000.
According to the police, the complainant paid an instalment of $200,000 with the understanding that the balance would be paid on completion of the job.
The complainant left the island shortly after.
On his return on Wednesday, August 20, the complainant visited Bourgeois' garage to collect the vehicle and settle the outstanding balance.
The police say he was informed by Bourgeois that the vehicle had already been collected by an individual who claimed he was sent by the complainant.
A report was made to the police and Bourgeois was arrested and charged following a probe.
His court date is being finalised.
