Employees from a section of the Ministry of Legal and Constitutional Affairs on Constant Spring Road in St Andrew have been asked to work from home in the wake of a serious mould problem affecting several offices at the location.

According to a reliable source, the workers could not carry out their duties at the offices owing to the mould that was having a negative impact on them.

The main offices of the Ministry of Legal and Constitutional Affairs is located at 1A Fairway Avenue in St Andrew.

The Gleaner reached out to Justice Minister Delroy Chuck, who confirmed that mould was discovered in a few offices at the Constant Spring Road location, where the justice ministry also operates from.

“To the best of my knowledge, a few rooms have some evidence of mould, so a number of workers have been moved out of these rooms to the other areas and other sections of the ministry,” he explained.

Chuck said he was informed about the problem a couple of weeks ago and steps are being taken to carry out extensive cleaning of the affected areas.

In terms of workers from the Ministry of Justice, Chuck said: “To the best of my knowledge, no one has been approved to work from home.”

Chuck said the ventilation in the offices is not as good as it should be and the landlord has been asked to address the issue.

He said that in some of the offices where the ventilation is adequate, there are no problems with mould.
